Come One, Come All!
Anniversary Bash! The "Funniest Newspaper on the Planet" invites you to celebrate 19 years of political humor in Sacramento, at the Humor Times Anniversary Bash! The Bash will be held Friday, April 9, 2010, 7:30PM - Midnight, at the Fox & Goose, 10th & R, Sacramento. Admission is just $5.00 at the door. There will be giveaways and live entertainment all evening. Two bands are featured, including headliner Clan Dyken, a longtime band from Calaveras County that is fronted by the Dyken brothers. This is an activist band that plays "world rock rebel music," an inherently danceable blend of california reggae, soca, latin, americana, funk, blues, rock, roots music smoothie for to shake your booty and your soul! Clan Dyken is a unique group has toured constantly for over 20 years, in some very original ways – with a solar powered stage, on a bio-diesel bus, and most recently by bicycle. Yes, they traveled in a bicycle caravan last year, hauling all their gear, along with a "human powered electric generator" sound system, up the west coast as far as Canada and entertaining in parks and plazas wherever they went. The bicycle-powered sound system made "a statement about the personal power of an individual, and the coming together of personal power of individuals to make something bigger and more beautiful," according to the Clan's website.
Opening will be The James Israel Band, fronted by none other than the editor of the Humor Times himself. A singer-songwriter for over thirty years, his new, talented 5-piece band will open, playing at 8:00 PM. Giveaways include the brand new “Yes Men Fix the World” DVDs, some of the faux New York Times newspapers that the Yes Men created and distributed in New York in the film, copies of the Humor Times (usually $3.00 a copy, or $18.95/year for 12 issues by subscription) and more. PLUS, you can be a star! Director Matt Shapi and his video crew will be there filming, and will present an edited video of the event later online – stay tuned to this site for the announcement and link. The Humor Times has been helping to lighten up the heavy subjects of national and international news since April 1st, 1991. That's when Sacramento was hit with the very first free issue of the Humor Times (then called the Comic Press News). It was an instant hit with anyone who appreciates political humor. The publication is no longer distributed free (except for a small number of free samples at random stops), but is available by subscription all over the world, mailed to your door, or in downloadable PDF / Flip Page format. If you've been missing the Humor Times, discounted subscriptions will be available! (No more excuses for going without the best political satire publication in the world!) And there'll be an all-night "meet and greet" with the Humor Times publisher/editor James Israel and his staff. We'll see you there!
