“Our second place winner is laugh out loud funny” – contest judges
Last month, we reported that Paul Lander, author of the periodic “Ripping the Headlines Today” column on this website, was a finalist in the 2015 annual column contest of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
They have announced the winners, and Mr. Lander took Second Place in the Online, Blog, Multimedia category. Taking first place was Jennifer Munro, for her blog Straight-No-Chaser Mom.
The judges said: “Our second place winner is laugh out loud funny. It’s easy to see how he’s transitioned from writing for television to print. His pithy, concise, and wry comments always have an edge that makes reading unexpectedly fun. In order to understand him, it pays to know current events which he sprinkles throughout his column with the deft of a newsman.”
Paul got a certificate and a t-shirt. Wow — and they say writing doesn’t pay anymore!
We’re proud of you Paul. Next time, we’re sure you’ll get that First Place trophy you so richly deserve!
