An allergic reaction caused Secretary of Homeland Security to be whisked away to the emergency room.
In response to an allergic reaction, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was whisked away to the emergency room on Tuesday. This was done “out of an abundance of caution,” said DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, who went on to report that Noem is “alert and recovering.”

Noem heads up a large government agency of some 260,000 individuals who are charged with immigration enforcement, airport security and disaster response, among other duties. McLaughlin said it was in service to the former responsibility that Noem was put in distress.
“Secretary Noem suffered an allergic reaction to brown people,” said the spokesperson, “incidental to her appearance at a DHS press conference which was attended by Sen. Alex Padilla.”
Noem denounced Padilla at the scene as “Hispanic to the core.” She accused Padilla of “disrespectful political theater.”
Video of the incident shows Padilla being manhandled out of the press conference, wrestled to the floor and handcuffed.
“After he interrupted our press conference with law enforcement, I met with Senator Padilla for 15 minutes,” Noem posted on X. “We probably disagree on 90% of the topics but we agreed to exchange phone numbers and we will continue to talk — that is the way it should be in this country.”
It was during this exchange, explained Noem, that she experienced an allergic reaction, which she said she has had “for many years” to “burritos, tacos, and other food from the Mexican subculture.”
Noem, 53, a former 2-time governor of South Dakota, first gained notoriety as the 1994 Sports Illustrated swimsuit model of the year. The DHS released a statement saying that Noem is expected to make a full recovery and has been cautioned to avoid brown people in the future.
