Ocasio-Cortez has suggested what she believes is a new approach to peace through strength for all.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) announced today that she intended to schedule meetings with Congressional experts on national defense and merchant shipping to discuss a revolutionary plan for using sustainable energy to power the nation’s warships and merchant vessels.

“This is an awesome way to show that the Green New Deal and a strong national defense and powerful international trade can all work together.” Ocasio-Cortez said. “If we get to work now, within ten years we will have something the world has never seen before: a navy and merchant fleet powered entirely by the wind.”
The outspoken four-term Congresswoman said she believed that reliance on wind power would also be conducive to world peace.
“If you look at the World Wars, which I’ve recently been doing for like the first time ever, you see that rivalries over navy technology created international hostility,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “With wind power, that won’t be a problem, because everyone has it already.”
Ocasio-Cortez said history teaches that peace and a low incidence of commercial rivalry are almost certain in the absence of fuel-burning ships.
The international response might be one of concern, Ocasio-Cortez said, because some parts of the world are windier than others, but those countries could use existing technology to address the problem.
“We might have to let wind-disadvantaged countries use low-flying aircraft to stir up the wind for their ships,” Ocasio-Cortez said, “but that still will be a lot less fossil fuel than what you need to power all those big boats, and of course one day we’ll have wind-powered aircraft too.”
Rep. L’Ocean MacCatheter III Jr. (D-N.J.) said he agreed with her objectives but cautioned against complacency regarding an inequitable distribution of wind.
“If we are to have peace and prosperity, we must have an immensity of wind everywhere,” MacCatheter said. “I suggest that we send a Congressional delegation on an international mission dedicated to the plenitude and ubiquity of wind.”
