Comedy is hard, Lying is easy! Frick & Frack could tell you that!
As a former 80’s Stand-Up Comic & Comedy Writer starting out in Washington DC, I bristled when I heard Donald Trump tell his CPAC audience he was only joking in 2016 when he said,
“Russia, if you’re listening – I hope you can find the 30,000 emails that are missing!”
In fact, in all of his outrageous quotes during his Campaign & 1/2 Term in office – I figure Trump told a total of 1 Joke – well, 1/2 of one!
At the Cleveland Debate when Megyn Kelly began, “You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs & disgusting animals”…
Trump interrupted her with a snide quip,
“Only Rosie O’Donnell!”
The hall burst into laughter & applause.
Well, it was Cleveland!

Not only was Trump’s retort not funny to women or Rosie; it tells everyone what you are & will always be.
We all know that when someone says something is a Joke – it ain’t!
It’s a shabby attempt to get off the hook & make you forget what they actually meant.
But, Trump knows we know – so why does he even try; it only makes him look more guilty.
It was 1/2 a Joke (& in Cleveland) because he thought Megyn’s question was so very cut-to-the-bone true; he had to deflect & come up with a punch line – quickly.
That’s why he got cheers & applause & to that audience; it was a whole joke.
The only trouble is – Trump thinks all these other quotes of his were zingers too:
2005 – on a Bus:
“And, when you’re a star, they let you do it – you can do anything, grab ’em by the…”
2006 – on “The View”:
“If Ivanka weren’t my daughter, perhaps I’d be dating her!”
2015 – Campaign Debate:
“Look at that face – would anyone vote for that?”
For every single quote; he got a laugh. Albeit, a nervous laugh.
But, just enough to keep him doing it & unfortunately, I know personally what that’s like:
“I don’t mind being older – what bothers me is I can’t nurse anymore cause now I give Butter!”
Yeah – I was just joking!
